This is a story I have been writing over the course of four years.... XD So sorry if it sucks in the beginning... ^-^'' Anyways, lemme give you a run-down of the story and characters before I post the first chapter.
Run-Down of Story:
The year is 2012. Imilia Herrmann is 18 years old and lives with her elder brothers, Jonas and Mathias, and her elder sisters, Lena and Petra. Lena and Petra are 20, Jonas and Mathias are 22. Their mother, Valeria, was of Italian descent and was the one to give Imilia her name. Their mother died 3 years after their father's death. The cause of Valeria's death was not able to be determined. Imilia was very close to her mother and was completely devastated by Valeria's death. Their father died during a sickness outbreak... Imilia was only a baby at the time and never knew him. Their father, Tobias, was of German descent and gave all his kids their names (except for Imilia). Tobias was 49 at the time of his death and Valeria was only 48 (she was 45 when Tobias died). As they live out their lives in Italy, their mother's home country, a sudden war breaks out in Italy and Germany against England and Russia. Both Jonas and Mathias enlist into the fight and are still fighting currently. The countries of Italy, Germany, England, and Russia are in shambles due to the war. The girls of the family decide that moving to a neutral country like Spain would be the best option. Imilia is reluctant to leave the house that her mother lived in, but tags along on the journey.... but as they are leaving, Imilia strays from the group and goes back to get something from the house. This is where our story begins! XD

Lena and Petra didn't look back to make sure that their little sister was following them. They just kept a tight grip on their belongings as they scurried through the broken streets of Italy. Imilia walked at a slower pace, watching as the distance between her and her sisters grew to a little over 5 feet. I wonder.... Will they notice I'm missing if I just leave now? the young girl thought, shrugging as she turned on her heels. She was now heading back to their house, traveling at a full sprint. She knew that if she were to be caught by an English or Russian soldier, it would mean big trouble. Her heart pounded as she ran towards her home. "Hey you! Stop right there!" a British voice yelled at her. Panic took hold of the 18 year old German-Italian as she ran for her life from the soldier. She quickly darted into an alleyway and jumped the fence, knowing that the soldier couldn't follow her. She leaned herself against a wall and slid down to the floor in an attempt to catch her breath. That's when she heard footsteps. Once again, the young girl began to scale the fence. She ran to her house and didn't look back until she had gotten inside. Imilia locked the door quickly and slumped against the wall. It was then that she looked up and saw that the British and Russian soldiers had been in their house. The picture frames were scattered everywhere with shards of glass surrounding them. Imilia began to cry as she saw the last family photo they took laying on the ground in a heap of broken glass and wood. The picture was torn in half. One side had her dad and her brothers. The other side had her mother and her sisters. And in the middle of the two halves was Imilia as a baby. "Damn it all," Imilia muttered as she cut her hand on the glass. She took the two halves of the pictures and put them in her backpack, which also was on the floor. She ran up the stairs and to Petra's room. She grabbed some of Petra's clothes and ran into Lena's room to do the same. Then she went into Mathias and Jonas' room. While in there, she grabbed some of their clothes and medical supplies. She also grabbed Jonas' laptop in case she needed it. Then, she went into her mother's old room. In there, laying on the bed, was her 1 year old German Shepherd Conchiglia. Conchiglia was Italian for "Seashell." "Conchiglia! Vieni qui![1]" the girl called, patting her lap. The German Shepherd raised her head and perked up her ears as soon as she saw her master. The German Shepherd knew little only Italian commands, so when her master said "vieni qui", she understood. "Buona ragazza. Andiamo[2]," Imilia said, grabbing Conchiglia's leash. Happily, the dog raced to the door, Imilia not far behind. "Alright, alright. Andiamo!" Imilia laughed, hooking the leash to the dog's collar and opening the door. The two began to head out the door when they ran into a familiar man. Conchiglia growled and barked. "Taci, ragazza![3]" Imilia commanded, silencing the dog. "Mi riconosci, Imilia?[4]" the man asked. Imilia looked up and a pair of familiar brown eyes greeted her cerulean gaze warmly. "Fratello![5]" Imilia cried, hugging the older man.
"Hey Lena. Where's Imilia?" Petra asked. Lena spun around in shock, replying, "I thought she was with you!" Petra shook her head. "Dannazione! Ora che cosa? Lei potrebbe essere perso .... o morto![6]" Lena grumbled, spouting a string of curses in Italian as she paced back and forth. "Lena? Petra?" a voice asked. "Mathias!?" Petra cried, hugging her older brother happily. "Where's Imilia? She went with you, didn't she? Or is she playing a game?" Mathias laughed, treating it like some joke. Lena shook her head, replying to the older boy, "No. She ran off while we weren't looking. We don't know where she is." "Then we should go find her. If I know our sorellina[7], she'll be back at the house," Mathias replied, grabbing the girls' hands and leading them back to their house. "Of course! We left Conchiglia there!" Lena realized, letting her bother drag her back to the old house.
"Follow me, Imilia!" Jonas whispered, leading the girl and her dog away from the house. "Where are we going, fratello?" Imilia asked, keeping a tight grip on Conchiglia's leash. "To the Italian war camp. You'll be safer there," Jonas replied in a hushed voice. The rest of the trip was silent as the duo made their way to the Italian camp. Once there, Imilia sat in a corner with Conchiglia and Jonas' laptop. "You have my laptop?" the older boy laughed, watching the younger girl nod. Her eyes were fixed on the screen with her headphones in her ears. Jonas sighed and walked out. "Jonas! Russia just attacked again! We need you on the front lines," a girl voice called. "Again?" Jonas groaned, "Alright, Rosa. But please.... my little sister's in that room. Can you make sure she gets on a train to Spain?" Rosa, the girl who had just called for Jonas, nodded in reply. Jonas thanked her quickly and ran to catch up with the other soldiers. Rosa opened the door and peered in to see the young girl and her dog asleep on the floor. The girl had headphones on and Rosa could hear the soft sounds of Italian music playing. Rosa just smiled and shut the door quietly, leaving the little German-Italian girl to sleep.
